February 15, 2016

Dear Classmates:

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 16, 2016, for the Reunion of Classes to be held at Marvell High School where we all grew up!  Once again, the classes from 1939 through 1977, and beyond, are invited.  The hours are from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  (Please bring your lawn chairs.  We will not be able to provide a sufficient number of chairs for everyone.)

This Reunion of Classes may be the last reunion this committee hosts until 2021 (five years from now).  So, please attend if you can.

It is very important that you check in at the registration booth when you arrive.  If you would like to come early and help with the set up, that will be great please.  We will start on Friday.

Each class is encouraged to plan its own activities for the rest of the weekend.  Send us an email if you have some ideas for your class and we’ll put you in touch with your classmates via email.

Other than the Saturday 9:30 to 5:00 reunion hours, the only other organized gatherings will be as follows:  Friday night social to be held at the old MHS High School (beginning at 6:00 p.m.) and the Saturday night social and dance to be held at the American Legion Hut (now the Davidson Center) which will begin at 6:30 p.m.

As in the past, there is no registration fee.  However, we do ask for a donation of $25.00 per person (maximum of $50.00 for you and your immediate family) to defray the cost of the reunion and to provide a fund to help maintain the old MHS building.  Of course, any donation is welcome.  A catfish dinner will be provided for lunch and appetizers will be provided for the evening’s social.  In the past, we provided water and drinks during the day.  Rather than increase the donation request amount, we decided to ask the UMY to sell water and drinks during the day.  You will need to bring your own beverages to the dance.

The majority of the money made from the reunion is given to the Marvell Civic Club for the exclusive purpose of maintaining the old MHS building.

Please visit the Marvell Reunion of Classes Facebook page (Marvell Reunion of Classes) and the website ( for more & updated information.  We will not send out another letter because of the cost.  Send us any student email addresses you have.

The reunion is your reunion.  One way to make it the best it can be is for each of you to get involved to some degree.  We ask you to contact ten of your friends to invite them.

Since the 2014 Reunion of Classes, we have lost over 33 MHS students; in the last twelve years, we have lost over 305.  We hope you will use this reunion to reconnect with friends.

We have been putting together these reunions for several years.  Because we are all growing older, we do not know how many more of these large reunions we have left in us.  So, if you want to see some old friends, come on down for this one.

On Ole Marvell’s northern borders,

Reared against the sky.

Proudly stands our Alma Mater,

As the years go by.

Forward, ever, be our watchword,

Conquer and prevail.

Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,

Marvell High, all hail!

Cherished by our sons and daughters,

Memories sweet shall throng.

‘Round our hearts our Alma Mater,

As we sing our sons.

Forward, ever, be our watchword,

Conquer and prevail.

Hail to thee, our Alma Mater,

Marvell High, all hail!

The registration fee of $25.00 per person ($50.00 maximum per immediate family) entitles you and your immediate family to enjoy the day’s activities including lunch.  For example, if you bring your spouse and two children, the maximum you pay is $50.00.   Although food expenses have increased over the years, we decided not to increase the donation request amount; rather, we decided to not provide drinks and water during the day.  The UMY will sell drinks and water during the day at a reasonable price.  We will provide a catfish dinner for lunch and appetizers for the evening’s event.  We will not provide set-ups for the Saturday night events.

Hors D’oeurves and Dance

The Hors D’oevrves will begin at 6:00 p.m. and

the dance, with a D.J., will follow shortly thereafter.

We will provide ice, cups, and a little bit of

water for the social and dance.  We will NOT provide set-ups.

This will not be a full meal but rather appetizers.
